Stay

Overlooking the expansive ocean and mountain ranges, and surrounded by all of the city’s must-visit shopping and dining locales, is Vancouver’s ultra-luxe Fairmont Pacific Rim. The waterfront property recently revamped its stunning owner’s suites, which now offer accommodations with décor inspired by European mid-century modernism. With an impressive roster of amenities and attractions, a vacationer wouldn’t need to leave the hotel’s front steps in order to make their visit memorable: on-site dining options like ORU, The Lobby Lounge and RawBar serve classic Pacific Northwest delicacies like spot prawns, the serene Willow Stream Spa offers a brand new four-hand massage (where not one, but two therapists work to soothe achy muscles with essential oils and traditional Swedish massage technique). The hotel’s innovative art collection, which is woven throughout the property, gives guests an easy glimpse into Vancouver’s vibrant art world.

Indulge

The city of Vancouver has become known as one of Canada’s culinary gems, and we can’t help but agree with that designation. Try Juniper Kitchen & Bar, located in Chinatown, for homegrown ingredients and artisanal, small-batch spirits. Ancora Waterfront Dining & Patio serves delicious Peruvian-meets-Japanese cuisine, while Nightingale (conveniently located right across from the Pacific Rim) offers mouthwatering Canadian cuisine.

When strolling down Vancouver’s Robson Street, be sure to make a stop at the charming, brand new Ladurée shop—the iconic Parisian macaron hotspot’s first and only location in Canada. And finally, head to Granville Island for a host of artisanal bakeries, shops, and distilleries. If you want to sample all that the island has to offer, take the Foodie Tour for a delightful afternoon of tastings, tales, and treats.

Explore

If you’re seeking an artful diversion, head to the Vancouver Art Gallery. Besides an extensive permanent collection that you could get lost exploring, the museum is currently hosting Canada’s must-see major exhibition on Picasso. On view through October 2, 2016, Picasso: The Artist and His Muses examines the role of six women in the modernist painter’s life and work. Finally, a trip to Vancouver is not quite complete without a stroll down “Luxury Row” (aka Canada’s version of Rodeo Drive). Here, you’ll find stand-alone Burberry, Christian Dior, and Saint Laurent boutiques dripping with splendid new styles just waiting to be housed in your closet.
